Custom Timber and Wire Mesh Garden Gateway

A structural replacement of a failing perimeter gate using pressure-treated timber and durable cattle panel mesh. This project upgraded a rotted entryway with custom mitered bracing and a decorative header for a refined finish.

The Challenge: Restoring Structural Integrity

The existing garden entrance had suffered significant environmental wear, resulting in a rotted gate frame and sagging wire mesh. The original structure had become difficult to operate and no longer provided a secure or attractive boundary for the residence. Our objective was to remove the failing lumber and design a replacement that would withstand the elements while enhancing the home's curb appeal.

The Solution: Enhanced Design and Detail

We removed the old, rotted gate and replaced it with a brand new one, incorporating a higher level of craftsmanship to ensure long-term durability. To make the project look significantly nicer than a standard utility gate, we added a structured top header and precision-cut diagonal bracing. This extra detail not only provides superior racking resistance but also creates a clean, geometric aesthetic that frames the garden beyond.

Materials and Craftsmanship

The new installation features premium pressure-treated lumber, chosen for its rot-resistant properties. We utilized heavy-gauge wire mesh panels to maintain an open, airy feel that allows for visibility into the landscape while providing a robust barrier. The gate is finished with heavy-duty black powder-coated strap hinges and a matching latch, offering a sophisticated contrast to the light wood tones. A protective cap rail was installed along the top of the fence sections to deflect water from the end grains, further extending the lifespan of the wood.
